There are many waterfalls in every Australian state, although the most spectacular drops are along the eastern seaboard – the Blue Mountains (NSW), Waterfall Way near Dorrigo (NSW), Lamington National Park (QLD) and Cairns region (QLD) are some of the best places to go chasing easily-accessible waterfalls.

Most impressive after heavy rain, St Michaels Falls is a picturesque waterfall along the Empire Pass that drops into a shallow pool.

Fairly remote and requiring a demanding bushwalk to reach, the Tootie Cascades is a beautiful small waterfall and large swimming hole on Tootie Creek.

Best visited after rain, the Tree Fern Gully Falls is in the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden. The Mueller Track passes the top of the waterfall, and an informal pad leads to the base.

The Upper Coachwood Falls along the Rosewood Creek Track is an unofficial waterfall, where the creek plunges off a wide ledge before being forced through a deep channel.

The picturesque Upper Kalimna Falls in the Otways plunges 15m over a tall cliff. It's accessible via the 9.4km Kalimna Falls loop (or a slightly longer return walk).

One of the largest waterfalls in Far North Queensland. Barron Falls is most spectacular during the wet season (Dec-Mar). Multiple vantage points provide a view over the rugged Barron Gorge and falls.

Darling Mills Cascades in the Bidjigal Reserve lays the claim to fame of being the only waterfall in the Hills Shire. The Darling Mills Creek tumbles over some rock ledges.
