Summary: The Rainforest Lookout along the Furber Steps doesn't offer any valley views, but overlooks the rainforest at the site of a historic picnic site.

The Rainforest Lookout is one of the only lookouts in the area that doesn’t offer any valley views… The fenced lookout overlooks a few trees ferns and the rainforest trees of the Katoomba Falls Gully.

A sign provides some history of this lookout, when it’s likely that some of the trees would have been cleared to provide a view of the Witches Leap Creek below.

This spot was popular with visitors during the turn of the century. When wood was plentiful the barbecue was often used… From here you can hear the waters of Witches Leap Creek as it burbles and mutters its way to Vera’s Grotto.

Getting to Rainforest Lookout

Access to the lookout is from Scenic World (in Katoomba), where the signposted Furber Steps descend steeply to the bottom of the valley, to meet the Federal Pass. You can re-trace your steps or take the Scenic Railway back to the top (or continue along the Federal Pass to extend the walk).
