Summary: Bluff Lookout offers a birds-eye view of the western railway line and Glenbrook Gorge below, with Cumberland Plain and the western suburbs of Sydney out to the east.

Ironically, while this informal lookout doesn’t have an official name, it offers one of the best views from Bluff Reserve. Directly Below is Glenbrook Gorge, and Cumberland Plain out to the east. If you’ve walked along Glenbrook Creek through Glenbrook Gorge, it feels like you’re a long way from civilisation – but looking down from this vantage point the gorge feels very tame.

Looking up the gorge, you can see the railway track as it emerges from the Glenbrook Tunnel, which was opened on 11 May 1913.

Bluff Lookout is unfenced, and while you can get close to the edge for a birds-eye view of the railway line, a slip would be fatal!

Getting to Bluff Lookout

From the end of Emu Road (Glenbrook), follow the walking track for about 75m down to the Ross Lookout at the edge of the escarpment, and then continue another 300m along the walking track, which crosses a small gully. It passes the remains of the funicular railway, which descended into Glenbrook Gorge.

The trailhead at the end of Emu Road is three kilometres or a 6 minute drive from the town of Glenbrook. There is a covered picnic table near the large carpark. The walking track along the edge of the escarpment also passes Chalmers Lookout and Ross Lookout.
