The multiple, large car parks as you approach Natural Bridge Falls is the first sign that this is a popular attraction! While I personally prefer the seclusion of some of the more remote Springbrook National Park (and Lamington National Park) waterfalls, Natural Bridge Falls is arguably the most spectacular waterfall in the Gold Coast hinterland. The waterfall plunges into a deep pool inside a cave, before flowing under a natural arch, carved out of the basalt by Cave Creek.
Natural Bridge Circuit
The waterfall is reached by a short (1km) and very scenic walking trail, which should be undertaken in a clockwise direction.
The paved track descends to Cave Creek which is crossed below the waterfall via a timber bridge.
The bottom of the waterfall is soon in sight, behind the large arch – which was once the lip of the waterfall, before the force of the water broke through into the cave.
The track continues into the cave, which offers the “classic” view of the waterfall from the bottom.
Inside the long cave are micro-bats, and a colony of glow-worms which you’ll see if you visit at night – they are more impressive in real-life, than in a photo…

The Natural Bridge Circuit then heads away from the creek as it makes its way above the waterfall.

Another lookout provides a view over the top of Natural Bridge Falls, which gives you a better sense of the power of this waterfall.
The walking track continues up Cave Creek, before crossing it again on another bridge and ascending gently back up to the carpark.
It’s an easy and popular walk – get there early or late in the day; late afternoon means you’ll also see the glow-worms if you want until it gets dark.
Getting to Natural Bridge Falls
Natural Bridge is about 50 minute drive from the Gold Coast, and 90min from Brisbane via Nerang Murwillumbah Rd (State Route 97). There are multiple parking areas on Barker Road, which is off State Route 97. The entire route is on sealed roads.
