Summary: No views from the Clarence Trig, a traditional concrete trig station on top of Mount Clarence, which is surrounded by trees

On top of Mount Clarence (near Lithgow) is the Clarence Trig (or Clarence Geodetic Station), a traditonal trig station with a white concrete base. There would no doubt have been sweeping views from here some time ago; tall trees now surround the trig.

The name plate is intact, and the trig is in pretty good condition.

Getting to Clarence Trig

This is an easy trig station to get to – with a 4WD (or very careful driving in an SUV) you can drive right up to the trig, which is next to a firetrail. Turn off Chifley Road about 9.2km from the Great Western Highway (if coming from Lithgow) or 2.4km from the Zig Zag Railway carpark (if coming from Sydney ot the east) onto an unnamed, unsealed road. Continue about 0.7km along the road, which is suitable for all vehicles, to reach a junction with a firetrail on the left. You can drive up the firetrail (4WD strongly recommended) or walk up to the trig, which is about a kilometre further.
