Summary: Yangahla Lookout along the Ships Stern Circuit offers a great view over the Numinbah Valley and out to the Gold Coast in the far distance.

Offering a similar perspective as the nearby Koolanbilba Lookout, Yangahla Lookout means “Resting Place (Flat Rock)”, which is very appropriate as the vantage point is the rocky top of a tall cliff that juts out over the surrounding trees. It’s unfenced with a precipitious drop on one side.. so not the most family-friendly lookout…

Yangahla Lookout offers a great view over the Numinbah Valley, with the Beechmont Range on the left.

The distinctive Egg Rock (known as Kurraragin in the Yugambeh language) is directly ahead, a prominent geological feature in the Numinbah Valley.

On the eastern side of the Numinbah Valley is Turtle Rock (Yowgurrabah), with the Numinbah Correctional Centre below it and the Nerang River and Advancetown Lake behind it.

Getting to Yangahla Lookout

The signposted lookout is along the Ships Stern Circuit walking track from Binna Burra, about 2.5km from the trailhead. Although typically visited as part of a longer loop walk, on a clear day it’s worth heading here for the expansive views.
