Vera Falls is the largest of the waterfalls along the Valley of the Waters Creek, and is right at the end of the creek just before it meets Jamison Creek. The waterfall was named in 1898 after the daughter of Frederick Moore, a Sydney businessman, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a member of the Wentworth Falls Trustees (the Wentworth Falls Trustees being responsible for naming all of the falls in the area).
As well as a rough side-track (off the Vera Falls Track) which leads to the base of the falls, a longer side-track climbs up to the top of the falls. On the opposite side of the valley are the Kedumba Walls.
A short distance upstream are some small cascades.
Getting to Vera Falls
There’s no easy way to reach the waterfall, which can be approached in two ways, or via the Hippocrene and Vera Falls Loop (which combines both options to form a loop walk and passes many more waterfalls).
- From the end of Fletcher St, head down the Valley of the Waters Track, which descends to the Wentworth Pass. The Wentworth Pass continues to the Vera Falls Track (a route rather than a track which requires some navigation expertise) – one side-track goes to the top of the falls, and another to the base.
- From the end of Falls Road, take the Wentworth Falls Track which joins the National Pass Track providing a steep descent past the middle of Wentworth Falls. Turn onto the Wentworth Pass, which continues to the base of Wentworth Falls. From here the Hippocrene Falls Track (which is more of a route than a marked trail) follows Jamison Creek down past Hippocrene Falls and onto Vera Falls.
