Like the Forty Foot Falls, the Sixty Foot Falls (or 60 Foot Falls) in Mittagong is pretty impressive after heavy rain. (During dry periods, the Nattai River may have a very low flow, making the waterfall a lot less picturesque.)
From the very bottom of the waterfall, you can see the main drop (which gives the waterfall its name, having a height of 60 feet, or 18m), and the lower cascade.
The waterfall drops into a deep pool; you can usually swim here when the river level is not too high. There’s also another pool after the smaller cascades. But it’s best to avoid swimming after recent rainfall, as the Nattai River water quality is impacted by urban run-off and sewage overflow.
From the top of the waterfall you can look down the Nattai River; there are some nice (sunny) picnic spots on the rocks above the river.
Getting to the Sixty Foot Falls
The most direct way to get to the Sixty Foot Falls is from the carpark at the end of Mount Alexandra Lookout Road. Take the Green Tramway Track, which follows the route of an historic coal mining railway as it descends steeply down Mount Alexandra.
The track eventually reaches a firetrail; turn left and follow this down to the Nattai River, where there is a signposted Nattai River Crossing (do not take the Falls View Fire Trail!). After crossing the river, continue along a bushwalking track that follows the river downstream.

Once you reach the top of the waterfall, you can scramble down to the bottom of the falls.

It’s about a 2.6km return walk, with a fairly steep descent/ascent. You could also take the Recreation Firetrail from Hawkins Drive in Mittagong, which makes it a slightly longer but much easier walk.
A much longer, full-day loop combines the Box Vale Walking Track and Mount Alexandra Loop, passing both the Forty Foot Falls and Sixty Foot Falls.
