Summary: Mimosa Oval Waterfall is hidden away in Sheldon Forest. While close to suburbia, the secret waterfall feels very secluded and remote.

I’m not sure if this waterfall has an official name: it’s marked on Google Maps as the Mimosa Oval Waterfall, which seems as good a name as any. Formed by Avondale Creek plunging off a small cliff in Sheldon Forest, the waterfall drops into a shaded pool. It takes a bit of effort to reach this secret waterfall, but the steep walk down is rewarded by a very tranquil and off-the-beaten-track location.

Getting to Mimosa Oval Waterfall

It’s not hard to find the waterfall… if you know where to look! Near the corner of Mimosa Avenue and Morna Place in Turramurra is a wide service trail that heads to the base of an electricity pylon. Follow this to the base of the pylon, then look for a narrow bushwalking trail that continues downhil. The trail is fairly distinct, but gets very steep in a few places. The route also takes you through a cave and past an enormous overhanging rock as it descends.
