Summary: A picturesque waterfall along Breakfast Creek in the Megalong Valley, Glenalan Falls is reached via a partly off-track bushwalk.

The remote and infrequently visited Glenalan Falls is one of only two named waterfalls along Breakfast Creek, which originates at Glenraphael Swamp on the Narrow Neck Plateau, before dropping over the escarpment (as Glenraphael Falls) and ending up at the Coxs River.

Located about three kilometres upstream of the junction with Carlon Creek just above Sliprail Creek, Glenalan Falls cascades 17 metres over one of the many cliffs along this section of Breakfast Creek.

At the base of the waterfall is a deep pool and swimming hole.

The flow of water varies significantly: Breakfast Creek can be just a trickle after a long dry period, or become a raging torrent after sustained heavy rain.

Getting to Breakfast Creek

There are two ways to reach Glenalan Falls: from the bottom, by taking the Carlon Creek Track down from Dunphys Campground, and then following Breakfast Creek upstream for about 3km. Alternatively, take the Medlow Gap Management Trail about 5km to where it meets Breakfast Creek and then walk down the creek (you’ll need to navigate some steep drops through a narrow section of the creek). The Breakfast Creek Loop bushwalk covers the walk up the creek.

Dunphys Campground is at the end of Megalong Road, about 40min (24km) drive from Blackheath. Carlon Creek Track and Medlow Gap Management Trail, but there is no trail along Breakfast Creek.
