Summary: Burgess Falls in Hazelbrook is a small waterfall which drops into picturesque, moss and fern covered grotto.

The last waterfall along the Burgess Falls Walk (unless you’re starting at the Winbourne Road end), Burgess Falls is a small waterfall that plunges into a fern-filled grotto. The waterfall itself is not too impressive, but it’s in a nice setting, with the creek dropping over a series of mossy ledges.

At the base of the falls is a very small pool.

It can be a bit of a muddy scramble getting down to the base of the falls from the end of the track; it’s easier to backtrack a short distance, and then make your way down to the creek.

The falls were named after Hazelbrook soldier Edward Allan Burgess, who was killed on the Western Front on 3 June 1917 at the age of 38.

Getting to Burgess Falls

A walking track was constructed from Horseshoe Falls to Winbourne Road via Oaklands Falls and Burgess Falls in 1918. It’s about a 2.8km return walk along this track from Oaklands Road (the most popular starting point) or a shorter 1.6km return walk from Winbourne Road. The scenic 4.5km Burgess Falls Track bushwalk passes these falls, and four more waterfalls. Either trailhead is about a 1:30min drive from Sydney, or 5 minutes from Hazelbrook town centre.
