Summary: A bushfire-damaged trig station, Toorwai Trig is a short walk from the Mellong Range Trail off Putty Road.

The current Toorwai trig station is relatively new, having been constructed on 28 March 1984. It sits on the top of a small hill next to the Mellong Range Trail, and is now surrounded by scrub. The trig is about 7km NNE of the locality of Mellong, and 1km south of the headwaters of Toorwai Creek. There’s no view from here, although a maintenance report from 1980 states “the hill commands an excellent view in most directions”.

It looks the worse for wear, with bushfires having melted part of the mast and damaged the vanes.

The nameplate has also been removed.

Getting to the Toorwai Trig Station

The trig station is less than 100m from the Mellong Range Trail, a firetrail which follows a ridge to the west of Putty Road; the trig is about 12km from Putty Road.
