Not to be confused (as I did!) with the Rams Head South Trig, the Southerly Ramshead trig is not an official trig station. The “Southerly Ramshead” peak is about a kilometre north-east of Rams Head South peak, and is also about 100m higher in elevation. It also has a trig on the top… but the trig has no serial number, and is not registered as a trig station. It’s a little confusing, as AllTrails (and any maps using OpenStreetMap or OSM) shows the Rams Head South in the wrong place.

There are spectacular 360-degree views from the top of the rocky summit, looking north to the rest of the Rams Head summits, and south over the Alpine Way road and Cascade Trail.

Getting to Southerly Ramshead Trig
There’s no walking track to the Southerly Ramshead peak; it can be reached from the Kosciuszko Walk trail (which goes from the top the Thredbo chairlift to Mt Kosciuszko) or from the highest point on the Dead Horse Gap walking track. Either option takes you though open alpine heath and meadows.
