Summary: The Higher Shelf Stones Trig in the Peak District offers 360-degree views, including Manchester to the west.

Higher Shelf Stones Trig (also spelt Higher Shelfstones) is on top of a hill in the Peak District; it’s a short detour from the Pennine Way and often visited as part of a hike to the B-29 Bleaklow Bomber crash site. The peak is considered an “English Nuttall”, which are peaks in England and Wales that are above 2,000 feet (609.6 m) in height and the general requirement to be called a “mountain” in the British Isles. Higher Shelf Stones is the 229th highest Nutall in England and the 398th in England & Wales.

While the trig station is not particularly high, it does offer almost 360-degree views, including Manchester city to the west.

The trig station is a standard concrete pilla.

Getting to Higher Shelf Stones Trig

The easiest route to the trig is via the Pennine Way from Snake Pass along Snake Road; you can also start from the town of Glossop. A rough track connect the peak with the Pennine Way.
