Although there are more beautiful beaches in Samoa than you can poke a stick at, so to speak, Lalomanu Beach has been recognised as one of the Top 10 Beach Destinations of the World by Lonely Planet. The relatively accessible beach has beach fales, or huts, as well as showers and toilets. Most of the beach has white sand and views out to Nu’utele island, but you can walk to southern end of the beach where there’s a sheltered alcove with large black volcanic rocks and palm trees.
A carpet of golden sand flanking a lagoon of aquamarine perfection, Lalomanu Beach offers views across to brooding Nu’utele island (site of a former leper colony) and is lined with brightly painted fales, the open-sided huts that function as Samoans’ living room/ceremonial space/general hangout zone.

Getting to Lalomanu Beach
The beach is near the eastern tip of Upolu island near the village of Lalomanu along the Main South Coast Road. It’s about 60km (1:20min from Apia). With so many beautiful beaches across Samoa, it’s not worth going out of your way to swim here – but if you’re in the area or doing a loop of the island it’s a good spot to stop for a swim.
