There are a few deep pools along Carnarvon Creek – but the Carnarvon Gorge Rock Pool is the only place where swimming is permitted. It’s a large and beautiful swimming hole, but the relatively short walk in makes it a popular and sometimes crowded spot.
Carved from the bed of Carnarvon Creek ovcer thousand of years by the annual floods, the Rock Pool has deep sections you can jump into from the rocks above, and lots of shade on both sides of the creek.
Getting to the Rock Pool at Canarvon Gorge
There are a couple of trails to the Rock Pool:
- From Rock Pool carpark: easy walk straight to the rock pool from the carpark on Carnarvon Gorge Road. 700m return (20mins).
- From the Visitor Centre: The Rock Pool Walk track which follows Carnarvon Creek. 3.6km return (1hr)
From Carnarvon Gorge Road (the short way!) the trail descends gently to Carnarvon Creek, which is crossed via a series of stepping stones.

It passes a deep pool (which is not the Rock Pool) before crossing Carnarvon Creek a second time.

Allow about 10 minutes each way.
