Summary: Razorback Lookout is a stunning viewpoint in the central Flinders Ranges, offering a view of the Heysen Range and unique geological formations dating back 700 million years.

This is (arguably) the best lookout of the central Flinders Ranges – Razorback Lookout even features on the South Australia Government’s “12 of the best views in South Australia’s national parks”.

Signage at Razorback Lookout points out St Mary Peak in the Heyson Range (Akurra Yardi), as well as the geological history of the Bunyeroo Valley.

To the left is a small, “striped” hill which represents at Trezona formation – a “Neoproterozoic era fossiliferous geological formation”. Or in simpler terms, “a sequence of interbedded siltstone with harder reddish limestone bands which form distinctive banded hill slopes”, a geological formation that dates back to a major ice age 700 million years ago.

Getting to Razorback Lookout

The signposted lookout is along the unsealed Bunyeroo Road, about 16km (25min) drive from Flinders Way Range. There is a small parking area with interpretive signage.
