Summary: Narrow Neck Lookout in Katoomba offers a great view of Narrow Neck and Mount Solitary, and access to the Narrow Neck Fire Trail (a popular bushwalking and cycling route).

A signposted lookout along Cliff Drive in Katoomba, Narrow Neck Lookout isn’t as well known as many of the other cliff-top vantage points of the Blue Mountains. However, it does offer one of the best views over Narrow Neck, the thin plateau which separates the Jamison Valley to the east and the Megalong Valley to the west.

You can see Glenraphael Drive (aka the Narrow Neck Fire Trail) which winds along the top of the plateau. It was once a bushwalking trail, before being converted to an unsealed firefighting road in 1957–58 (which was extended all the way to Clear Hill in 1960) following severe bushfires.

To the east of Narrow Neck is Mount Solitary in the Jamison Valley, which is accessed by bushwalkers via the steep and thin Korowal Knife Edge on the right.

Narrow Neck Lookout is the “gateway” to the Narrow Neck Fire Trail, with a signposted trail (for bushwalkers and mountain-bikes) starting here. (You can drive about 2km down Narrow Neck along Glenraphael Drive to a locked gate, although ths unsealed road is sometimes closed for maintenance or due to subsidence.)

Getting to Narrow Neck Lookout

The lookout is along Cliff Drive, which is about 3.5km from Katoomba (5min drive) via either Narrow Neck Drive or Katoomba Street. There is limited off-street parking and a few picnic tabes, but no facilities (no toilets, water, or shelter).
