Summary: The fenced Jamieson Lookout is just off the Fern Bower Track (Federal Pass) and offers some great views over the Jamison Valley.

One of a few incorrect spellings of the Jamison Valley, Jamieson Lookout is on the escarpment just below Cliff Drive in Katoomba. It’s unknown exactly this vantage point was named, but it was documented in 1936 when a number of improvements to the Prince Henry Cliff Walk were proposed, with the decision that “Jamieson Lookout” be improved by removal of old posts and netting, and be piped and netted, and new sign erected. (The Blue Mountains Times, Fri 24 Jul 1936).

The large, fenced lookout provides a sweeping view up the Jamison Valley (which gives the lookout its name) and of the long Kings Tableland escarpment.

Directly ahead is the eastern end of Mount Solitary.

Getting to Jamieson Lookout

The lookout is off the Federal Pass (also called the Fern Bower Track), just after it branches off the Prince Henry Cliff Walk. It’s accessed by the Prince Henry Cliff Walk on Cliff Drive, opposite the old Solitary Restaurant. The trailhead is about 1.4km from Katoomba station, and 2.9km from Leura.
