Summary: Just off Flinders Ranges Way and easily accessed by car, Hucks Lookout offers an unobstructed view of the main Wilpena Pound Range.

While not the most spectacular of the many lookouts along Flinders Ranges Way, Hucks Lookout is relatively quiet, and offers a nice view over the Flinder Ranges. (The nearby Stokes Hill Lookout offers a more impressive view.) Unusual for this lower-elevation lookout is the many grass trees (Xanthorrhoea quadrangulata) covering the slope, which are common on the higher peaks of the area.

To the west is the Wilpena Pound Range, with its highest mountains St Mary Peak (1,171m) and Pompey Pillar (1,168m).

There is some signage at the lookout about the geology of the area.

Getting to Hucks Lookout

Located about halfway between Hawker and Blinman, the signposted Hucks Lookout is on private property (Upalinna Station) just off the main road. While the access road is unsealed, it’s only 250m and suitable for all cars. It’s 14km (15min drive) from Wilpena Pound Resort and 61km (41min) from Hawker.
