Bouddi National Park has a network of firetrails and bushwalking trails accessing almost all the beaches and many of the headlands; the Bouddi Coastal Walk runs along the main section of the park. Some of the trails run close to or in some cases through private property, and residential development has resulted in the closure of some tracks due to land access issues. The trails below are listed in order of length.
Have a look at the Guide to Bouddi National Park for a summary of bushwalks, beaches, lookouts and picnic areas – the list below is of all the individual bushwalking and mountain-biking trails in Bouddi National Park.

The Mourawaring Moors fire trail follows the edge of Bouddi National Park from the end of Beachview Esplanade in MacMasters Beach to Little Beach (the last 300m which descends steeply from the fire trail to the beach is technically called the “Little Beach Walking Track” – not to be confused with another track with the same name that’s on the other side of the beach). There are no views from Mourawaring Moors Trail which as it’s inland, although a couple of side-tracks (Second Point Trail and 72 Trail) lead to the edge of the cliff, from where there are views along the coast. The firetrail is part of the Bouddi Coastal Walk, between MacMasters Beach and Little Beach.

This firetrail starts on The Scenic Road and roughly follows the road, before meeting the North West Ridge Trail. It’s pleasant walking through tall forest, but not particularly interesting. If you’re doing one of the cycling routes recommended by NPWS, it allows you to avoid riding along part of the busy Scenic Road. But it’s otherwise not a walk I’d really recommend…
Suggested walks:
– Combine with North West Ridge Trail to form a loop, visiting Aboriginal engraving site – Map
– Combine with Scenic Road, North West Ridge trail, and Stroms Trail to form Stroms Loop cycling route. (Easy, 5km loop) – NPWS info
Location | Starts on The Scenic Drive (Killcare Heights) |
Distance | 1km one-way (15min) |
Grade | Easy. 40m total ascent |
More Info | None available |
Maitland Bay Track (1km one-way)

The well sign-posted Maitland Bay Track is the easiest way to get to Maitland Bay (arguably the best beach in Bouddi NP), and is one of the most popular tracks in the park. Starting near the Maitland Bay Information Centre, where there is a large carpark, the track immediately starts descending through the bush. Although the track is quite steep in places with lots of steps, it’s a well-formed track and is aways well-shaded. There’s a nice section of ferns near the start, and ocassional filtered views of Maitland Bay. The track passes a junction with the Bullimah Spur Track after 100m and the Bouddi Coastal Walk after 700m.
You’ll end up at the western end of the beach where you should find some shade – walk another 800m along the the beach to explore the rocks around Bouddi Point. At low tide you’ll also see the shipwreck of the SS Maitland, which foundered on the rocks in 1898.
Suggested walks:
– Return the same way is the easiest option if you just want to get to Maitland Bay (Easy, 2km return) – Map
– Combine with Bullimah Spur Track to form a longer loop that has some great views (Moderate, 4.7km) – Map / Description
– Combine with Mount Bouddi Track to form a not-so-nice loop, partly on-road and fire-trail (Easy, 4.7km) – Map
Location | Trail starts on The Scenic Road near Maitland Bay Information Centre |

Rocky Point Trail (1km one-way)

Starting at Wards Hill near the longer Daleys Point Track, the Rocky Point Trail is a firetrail that descends gently to the Allen Strom Lookout (the last 100m is a walking track). From the fenced lookout, there’s a great view over Brisbane Water to Wagstaffe and Ettalong. The firetrail ends in a small clearing soon after the path down to the lookout, but it’s possible to continue down an informal path that to form a loop with the Daleys Point Track.
Suggested walks:
– Return the same way (Easy, 2km return)
– Return via Daleys Point Track and informal bushwalking tracks to create a longer loop walk (Moderate, 7km loop) – Map / Description

Suggested walks:
– Combine with Bombi Moor Trail to create the rather dreary Bombi Loop walk (Easy, 2.4km loop)
– Map – Use this trail to join the Bouddi Coastal Walk if starting at Little Beach (Moderate, 17km) – Map / Description

North West Ridge Trail (1.1km one-way)
From The Scenic Road, the North West Ridge firetrail descends gently along a wide ridge before flattening out. At the end of the trail is the signposted North West Ridge Aboriginal Site – unfortunately the engravings are very weathered and impossible to make out (the Daleys Point Aboriginal Site is far more interesting). Just next to the North West Ridge Trail is a narrow and unofficial bushwalking/MTB track, which provides an alternate option. This firetail also forms part of the cycling routes recommended by NPWS.
Suggested walks:
– Combine with Turkey Trail to form a loop, visiting Aboriginal engraving site – Map
– Combine with Scenic Road, Turkey Trail, and Stroms Trail to form Stroms Loop cycling route. (Easy, 5km loop) – NPWS info

Note – the firetrail crosses the corner of a private block and as a result the trail has been technically closed; the property boundary is marked by a “track closed” sign.
Suggested walk: Combine with Box Head Track & informal trails to create loop walk (Moderate, 7.2km loop) – Map / Description
Location | Park at junction of Old Wagstaffe Trail & Hawke Head Drive, Killcare. 4WD recommended. |

More Info | Box Head Loop bushwalk |
Bombi Moor Trail (1.3km one-way)
The Bombi Moor Trail is a wide and fairly boring inland firetrail, which forms part of the Bouddi Coastal Walk between Little Beach and Maitland. There’s really no reason to walk this trail unless you’re doing the Bouddi Coastal Walk – although if you enjoy firetrails you can combine this with the Old Quarry Trail to form a loop. The Bombi Moor Trail has a few-side tracks which all go the edge of of the coastal cliffs and offer some views: the 78 Trail, 81 Trail and Third Point Trail.
Suggested walks:
– Combine with Old Quarry Trail to create the rather dreary Bombi Loop walk (Easy, 2.4km loop) – Map / Description

A wide firetrail, it goes though low coast scrub so there’s not much shade. Suggested walks: Include in the Bombi Moor Circuit (Easy, 7km with side-tracks) – Map / Description
Location | Access from end of Grahame Drive via Little Beach Walking Track & Bombi Moor Trail |

Some of the best views in Bouddi National Park can be found along this trail, which starts as a firetrail that descends from a small parking area at the end of Hawke Head Drive. Soon after the junction with the Tallow Beach Trail, which descends to the beach, the wide trail becomes a narrow bushwalking track. Mostly shaded by trees, the Box Head Track continues along the ridge to the end of Box Head. Bouddi Coastal Walk (8.5km one-way)

The Bouddi Coastal Walk is a signposted route that (mostly) follows the coastline from MacMasters Beach in the north, to Putty Beach in the south. It’s technically not one contiguous track; while long sections of the route are actually called the Coastal Walk, it also uses other tracks and firetrails. But the entire route is signposted as the “Bouddi Coastal Walk” and is easy to follow. Along the Bouddi Coastal Walk is Little Beach, Maitland Bay and Bullimah Beach, as well as spectacular views from Gerrin Point Lookout and many informal vantage points along the coast. Public transport at both ends is very limited, so unless you’ve arranged a car shuffle, there are a few options to make this into a loop walk (see More Info below.)
Location | Track starts/finishes at MacMasters Beach SLSC and Putty Beach carpark. Alternate start/end point is the Little Beach carpark. |
Distance | 8.5km one-way. 14-18km return or loop walk (depending on route taken) |
Grade | Moderate. Approx 600m total ascent. |
