There are many waterfalls in every Australian state, although the most spectacular drops are along the eastern seaboard – the Blue Mountains (NSW), Waterfall Way near Dorrigo (NSW), Lamington National Park (QLD) and Cairns region (QLD) are some of the best places to go chasing easily-accessible waterfalls.

The small but impressive Coachwood Falls is along the Rosewood Creek Track in Dorrigo National Park. There's a shallow pool at the top, and a deeper swimming hole at the base of the falls.

Curtis Falls is a small but picturesque waterfall in Tamborine National Park, which is surrounded by rainforest. It's reached by a steep (1.1km return) bushwalk.

Davies Creek Falls is a picturesque waterfall in the Dinden National Park, about an hour from Cairns, Above the falls is a spectacular infinity pool or waterhole, perched above a sheer cliff.

Edith Falls (sometimes confused with Lodore Falls) is one of the smaller waterfalls along the Valley of the Waters Track in the Blue Mountains.

The Forty Foot Falls in Mittagong doesn't always have a big flow, but it's pretty impressive after heavy rain. You can walk behind the waterfall and also look at it from the top.

One of the most well-known and popular attractions in the Blue Mountains, the stunning Govetts Leap (also known as the Bridal Veil Falls) drops 180m in the valley. It can be viewed from a few cliff-top lookouts.

Granite Falls on the NSW south coast generally doesn't have a high volume of water, but the river plunges off a 63m-high sheer granite cliff. A cantilevered platform provides a great view of the falls and valley below.
