Long TS2882
The official name of the Trig Station as per the NSW Department of Land is: Long.
Serial number is: TS2882.
Last inspected: January 18, 1973.
Elevation is: 208 meters.
Record shows that this trig was vandalised, the post was hacked with an axe and the cairn partially destroyed, the remains of the cairn were 2.9 meters in diameter and 1.3 meter in height.
In fact these days trig posts have generally been burnt by fires so the missing post isn't particularly uncommon. And the cairn is still an extremely substantial structure as can be seen from the photos.

Have ridden and run here many times before but never noticed this trig. Came along today and saw it from the trail while riding knowing the area to look out at. Love these old rock built ones in the area.

Came out to the area with 3 specific Trigs to find. Roach, Long and Cowan. There are others nearby, but they will require more time and planning...and maybe some extra bravery, or a fellow trig hunter for support. Both trails are good for the mountain bike. Not too hard. Not too easy. I came home very satisfied.

Took the opportunity of a walk with PPE to get some caches and trigs. We spotted this one from the trail, hiding behind some thin scrub. A decent cairn, if nothing else. I could just see where the surveyor had marked the vanes but couldn't make out the words.

Found during a SBW 'Six Trigs in a Day" walk. Trigs found included: White, Cowan, Roach, Long, Arthur and Wilkins.

29/03/14. 8:57 AM. GCA Cache #14. I was up in Kuring-Gai NP this morning looking for two of Tyreless' new GC caches (Long and Cowan). While I grabbed them I decided to look for the GCA trigs as well.
This one I found about 15 minutes after the Long GC cache, further down the track. It was only a little further down the road, and quite easy to get to. I considered going even further down the track to the nice viewing spot recommended by Tyreless, but I was pressed for time, so I followed the track back to the Roach trig next. TFTC }:)

Long ago (ha ha) I spotted a series of old unrecorded (on GCA) trigs on parish maps. It was quite a series out this way and I endeavoured to find a few of them with my rough coords worked out on Google Earth. However rogerw3 came up with accurate coords in time and published the rest. I'd been planning on coming here for a couple of years and got as far as Roach after Cowan and Near & Far a way back but didn't go further.
Today we finally returned needing a good long walk. Parked at the end of Cullamine Road (the right end) and walked on in on a familiar fire trail. A gaggle of cyclists was hanging out at the first junction and as we walked the trail they passed in dribs and drabs. We made sure they didn't splash us as they went by. Passed the Cowan side track (which is cyclist and horsey-type free) on the left and continued on the fairly level trail until the little uphill near the end. Some great views and rock outcrops along here.
Found the trig fairly easily - there's red and white flagging tape marking the turn-off now - and took our pics. I wonder about the stories of this trig's destruction. Plenty left with the vanes (with bullet holes) lying on top although the post has been burnt by the look of it. It was a little over 4km to this point and took us 40 minutes.
On the way back we went up on a rock outcrop and found evidence of someone's activities - a fireplace and some attempt at a wall (or a trig cairn?) - see pics. The cyclists returned while we were up there.
Then the walk back - some lovely flowers out now - Christmas bells and fringed lilies.

I continued along the trail from Roach. The trig was visible from the trail and not much has changed since others visited the spot previously except a bit of charcoal from the bushfires 6 months ago.
After visiting the trig I continued down to the end of the trail. I thoroughly recommend the walk and there are great views at the end.

Could see this one from the path once I knew where to look. A nice big structure still and easy to get to.
This seemed like a good trig to look for on a walk around today so we headed out there first. "Just a bit off the track to the left now" I called and strike-a-light saw it immediately! If this cairn has been partly demolished, it must have been a huge height in the old days - it's still very impressive!

This is an extremely popular track for bike riders and a very easy walk out to the end being about 5km from the car park (10km return) There are some great views near the end so bring your camera.
